Conviction over
convention

Three pillars of long-term investment philosophy.

Max's approach to investment is hands-on and long-term. He backs companies he believes in and gets personally involved—not as a passive investor, but as a working chairman. He chairs the boards of his two priority companies and stays for decades, recruiting teams and guiding strategy. These are conviction plays, not portfolio companies.

MicroPower Global

Max is Chairman & CEO of MicroPower Global, founded in 2008. The company has developed waste heat conversion technology using thermoelectrics—the ability to generate emission-free electricity at approximately US 2 cents/kWh directly from industrial waste heat.

  • Over $80 million invested to date
  • Independently validated by NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) and ARL (Army Research Laboratory)
  • Strong patent portfolio with 22 patents
  • Multinational pilot partners across steel, cement, glass, oil and gas sectors
  • Former research partnership with Texas State University (2010 – 2022)
  • Total addressable market exceeding $100 billion

The core opportunity: turning waste heat directly into electricity—cheaply, efficiently, and at scale across global industry.

Wellbeing International Foundation

Max joined the board in 2016 after the foundation's reorganisation. He came to the company initially as a sceptical client in 2010 with a ruined knee from years of sports injuries. The treatment worked, and he joined the board. Today he is Chairman.

The foundation has developed cell-free therapy based on extracellular vesicles (EVs) rather than traditional stem cells—using the body's own repair mechanisms. Each dose contains 588+ growth factors and is produced in a GMP-certified lab.

  • 25+ years of research and development
  • Used by 500+ elite athletes, including NFL Pro Bowl players
  • Among users: 15 Super Bowl champions and 13 Stanley Cup champions
  • Treatment optimises the body's own cellular repair

The core innovation: harnessing the body's own growth factors for regeneration—proven with elite athletes, scaled for broader use.

Film Finances, Rubicon and Groucho

Through Rubicon and Groucho, and as the former Chairman of Film Finances — the world's leading completion guarantor — Max has been at the heart of the film industry for decades. During his tenure in the 1980s, the company helped bring iconic films like Rain Man, Platoon, and The Last Emperor to the screen. Founded in 1950, Film Finances has guaranteed over 6,000 productions with combined budgets exceeding $17 billion, backing films like Rain Man during Max's era to more recent award-winning films like The King's Speech, with offices in Los Angeles, London, Toronto, and Sydney.

Subsequently, Max has developed three compelling film projects, which he would like to produce with creative partners:

  • The Baker's Dozen — A World War II love story set in Ukraine. Original planned cast included Carey Mulligan, Tim Spall, Bill Nighy, Danny Huston, and Wes Bentley
  • Run for New York — The true story of Captain Nathaniel Courthope, whose stand on the island of Run in the East Indies eventually led to New Amsterdam becoming New York
  • The Right to Know — A courtroom drama about a couple who contract HIV and are never told by their insurer

The vision: deep roots in the film industry, bringing compelling, character-driven stories to the screen.
